This is a beautiful vintage Plumb made Rockaway pattern. It shows age and history of use with the bit of mushooming on the poll (back) that I intentionally decided to leave for that reason. I have cleaned the head thoroughly and put a, near mirror, 20 degree Flat-grind bevel on the bit. Followed by a micro bevel on the very edge. The handle is 23¾ long, hand shaped American Ash with an octagonal shape ⅔'s of the way down. It tapers to oval at the Canary wood swell that also has a black canvas micarta pin. The wedge is from my Designer wedge line and consists of DarkWalnut, black/blue G10 and double black line Ivory paper micarta. Boy does it pop! I finish sanded the handle to 320grit and brought the swell to 600grit.
I had so much fun carving this handle/swell out! I truly hope that shows through in this finished product.
Thanks for looking.
This axe would be great for felling or limbing in forested areas where space is limited. That said, it's ready for anything you may want to use it for.
